Appearance:

The American Staffordshire Terrier has a stocky muscular body that is agile and athletic.

Their broad powerful head features a medium muzzle and a commanding set of jaws.

American Staffordshire Terriers have round black eyes. No pink eyelids.

The tail tapers to a point, and teeth that close in a scissors bite.

Nose should be definitely black

The ears should be short and held rose or pricked.

The coat is short, thick and shiny. You may find American Staffordshire Terriers in a variety of colours, but dogs must not be more than 80% white, black, tan or liver. The breed is classified as the “AmericanS
taffordshire Terrier”.

Temperament:

American Staffordshire Terriers are happy, social, outgoing, extremely loyal and affectionate.

Over the past 75 years, selective breeding has produced American Staffordshire Terriers that are trustworthy, stable, and especially good dogs with children.

They constantly aim to please, and are highly intelligent, obedient and courageous. It has given outstanding results as a guardian of property, but is at the same time esteemed as a companion dog.

This breed may be dog aggressive. Socialize very thoroughly when young to curve any dog aggressive tendencies.

This breed requires an owner that is active, understanding, and patient.

This breed has a very high tolerance for pain.

This breed can be difficult to housebreak.

Height and Weight:

Height: Dogs 46-48cm

Bitches 43-46cm

Weight: 25-35 kg

Height and weight should be in proportion

Health:

The American Staffordshire Terrier is generally a healthy breed. Some known concerns include hip dysplasia, cataracts, and congenital heart disease.

Litter Size:

They average 5 to 10 puppies per litter.

Life Expectancy:

American Staffordshire Terriers typically live for 9 to 15 years.

Living Conditions:

American Staffordshire Terriers will do okay in a townhouse or cluster, but will not be recommended. This breed must have plenty of regular exercise and needs to be taken on long daily walks. They prefer warm climates.
